Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

H6438 Michael KUDLOVICH Facebook 2018 post by Lorna McBride daughter:
My Dad Michael Kudlovich lived most of his life in Winnipeg. My Mom passed away September 2 1979.
Dad relocated in Port Moody BC in 1989.
He developed Parkinson's Disease and spent his final years at the George Derby Centre. This care facility is for veterans.
His work after the War was with the federal government of Canada. His passion was motorcycling, and owned many until Parkinson's ended that.
I am aware that he developed Tuberculosis as a POW, and after liberation spent time in hospital in Vancouver, then at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg.
He and my Mom Ollie, had 4 children. David 1947, Lorna 1950, Peter 1954, and Patricia 1958.
He said that counselling for survivors of the POW camp was not available. It was a suck it up attitude. So he never really spoke about the years in captivity. Probably too painful. In his later years we heard more.
He was cremated after his death May 1st, 1998. His ashes have been scattered in his favourite spots.
He was a kind, quiet, and passionate man. He loved to play the harmonica.
I miss him and his gentle ways.
