Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

William (Bill) Derhak Peacefully at Tache Centre, on Tuesday, July 20, 1999, Mr. William Derhak passed away at the age of 86 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pearl (nee Olivier); by one daughter Mrs. Doreen (Kenner) Henderson of Brampton, Ont. and one grandson Michael Henderson of Calgary, Alta. He also leaves two brothers, Edward and Peter; one sister Anne Janes of Niagara Falls, Ont. Bill was predeceased by his son Norman Derhak in 1994.
Bill served with the Royal Winnipeg Grenadiers in Hong Kong during the Second World War. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 43. Bill was a letter carrier for 23 years. He will be sadly missed by his family and numerous friends.
A special thank you to all staff at Tach6 Centre, fourth floor for all their special love and care given to Bill in the last year.
Viewing will take place between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, also at Desjardins Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
