Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

CARTER - Passed away in Lethbridge on Saturday, September 08, 1990, Mr. Victor Ernest Carter, at the age of 71 years, beloved husband of Mrs. May Carter of 330 27 Street South, Lethbridge. Born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the late Mr. Carter enlisted with the Winnipeg Grenadiers at the outset of the Second World War. Vic was taken prisoner in Hong Kong, returning to Canada at the end of the war. He worked for Poole Construction as Superintendent and shipper/receiver for many years and as a result, resided in various centers during his career. Vic was married to May in Lethbridge in 1977 where Vic has continued to reside until his passing. Mr. Carter was an avid bowler and was well known in the Golden Age Bowling Leagues. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, General Stewart Branch No. 4. Besides his loving wife, May, Vic is survived by two sons, Thomas (Patricia) Carter of Edmonton and Robert Carter of Lethbridge; four daughters, Dianna Carter of Calgary, Colleen Carter of Lethbridge, Linda (Robert) Forrest of Kelowna, and Lorrie Johnson of Lethbridge; 11 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his sister, Dolly Ellerbeck of Mission, B.C., as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Vera Smith. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 11, 1990, in Martin Bros. Memorial Chapel, 703 13 Street North, Lethbridge, with Brigadier A. Cyril Frayn officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Field of Honour Section. MARTIN BROS.
