Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

FREDERICK GEORGE ADAMS - Mr. Fred G. Adams, (C.S.M.) aged 89 years, passed away after a long illness on February 18, 1982 at Deer Lodge Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Martha Adams, 3160555 Burnell St.
He was born in Kent, London, England in 1892 and immigrated to Canada in 1912. He served in the First World War with 78th Battalion, Winnipeg Grenadiers and served in the Second World War as Company Sargeant Major in Canada and Jamaica and was a member of the ill-fated expedition to Hong Kong where he remained a prisoner of war for 44 months. He was a life member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association, a member of No. 1 Legion and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was employed by the Winnipeg School Board for 42 years, six years at the R.C.A.F base in Winnipeg and six years for the Corps. Commission at Deer Lodge Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his wife Martha; one son Gilbert and daughter-in-law Eva; six daughters, Ruth Dixon and son-in-law Barry, Joan Pacholek and son-in-law Edward, Gladys Tisdale, Thelma Moran, Doris Prudent, Vera Galloway; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Keable and Edith Inglis both of Australia; also many relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Februaray 23 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, 61 Picardy Place, just off Portage Ave. Rev. Bruce Miles will officiate. Viewing at the chapel Monday from 8:00-9:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Glen Dixon, Terry Dixon, Randy Adams, Greg Pacholek, Kevin Moran and John Moran. Hong Kong veteran honorary pallbearers will be John Matheson, Angus McRitchie, Harry Atkinson, Frank Harding, Alex Henderson and Scottie Adams. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation may be made to the Hong Kong Veterans Assoc. (Manitoba Branch), Box 381, Winnipeg, Man.
