Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

BERZENSKI – Nicholas, a resident of Doumont Road, R. R. 1, Lantzville, B.C., passed away in Nanaimo Hospital Monday morning, February 19, 1979. Born at Shoal Lake, Manitoba, Mr. Berzenski had been a resident of Lantzville for the past 13 years and was 63 years of age. He served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers from 1939 to 1945, was a prisoner of war in Hong Kong from 1941 to 1944. Mr. Berzenski was a member of Seaview Branch 257 of the Royal Canadian Legion at Lantzville and is survived by his wife Lori at home, three brothers, Steve, Binscarth, Manitoba, Edward, Chilliwack, William, Port Alberni, two sisters, Nel Simonson, Sanford, Manitoba, Ann Berzenski, Vancouver, B.C., and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services (Legion Auspices) will be held in the Chapel of Mount Benson Funeral Directors, 125 Wallace Street, Nanaimo, B.C., Thursday afternoon, February 22 at 1 p.m. Rev. Martin Dohm-Smidt of St. Phillip’s By The Sea Anglican Church, Lantzville will officiate followed by interment in Nanaimo City Cemetery. Flowers are acceptable or if friends so wish donations in memory of Mr. Berzenski may be made to the Hong Kong Veterans Association, c/o John Fonseca, 796 Adiron Avenue, Coquitlam, B.C.
