Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

On Monday, July 7th, 1969 at the Deer Lodge Hospital, Mr. David Frederick Davidson aged 51 years late of 248 Strathmillan Road, dearly beloved husband of Evelyn Davidson and father of Darlene and Dale Davidson. Born in Winnipeg, Mr. Davidson moved to St. James – Assiniboia in 1955. He had been employed at the Deer Lodge Hospital as an electrician for 16 years.
Mr. Davidson served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers from 1939 to 1945, having served time in the West Indies before becoming a prisoner of war in Hong Kong from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Davidson was in good standing with the Hong Kong Veterans Association.
Besides his wife Evelyn and two daughters, Darlene and Dale, at home, Mr. Davidson is survived by four sisters, Thorun T. Jorundson, Sarah J. Jorundson, Rose C. Jones and Victoria J. McGowan, all of Winnipeg and three brothers, Neil, Sam and Oliver of Winnipeg.
Funeral Service will be held 2:15 Friday at the Park Lawn Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue with Padre U. Laite officiating. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements by Clark Leatherdale, St. James, Phone 888-7977.
