Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

FEREOL JOSEPH LEGROS - Peacefully after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, May 28, 1986 at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, Fereol Joseph Legros, beloved husband of Frances Legros. Prayers and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, Manahan and Pembina Hwy. with Rev. Fr. P. A. Morand officiating. Service will terminate at the church. Pallbearers will be six nephews, Rudy Legros, Barney Bower, Lloyd Marshall, Warren J. Holm, Kenny Legros and Lawrence Bower.
Mr. Legros was born in Pinewood, Ont. and was raised and worked in Sioux Lookout and came to Winnipeg in 1960. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. His great love was music, and he played in the Legros Family Orchestra. He was employed with the Federal Government for many years, retiring early due to ill health.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Frances; brother Origene of Dryden, Ont.; two sisters, Mrs. Germaine Bower of Sioux Lookout, Ont., Mrs. Ludmille Baker of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother; seven brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, would be appreciated. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria and Princess Elizabeth Hospital, and a special thank you to Fr. Pat Morand and Fr. Ed Morand.
