Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

MARCEL JOSEPH VAN DAMME - On Saturday, December 29, 1984 at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Chicago, Ill., Marcel Joseph Van Damme, aged 73 years, beloved husband of Marguerite Van Damme, formerly of 329 St. Anne's Rd., Winnipeg.
He was born February 3, 1911 in St. Boniface, Man., the son of Henry Van Damme and Leontina Mortier. He married Marguerite Nys on September 28, 1935. Mr. Van Damme lived in St. Boniface until 1956, where he owned and operated Weston Painting and Decorating. He then relocated to Chicago, Ill. until his retirement in 1971. After retiring, he again spent some time in Winnipeg and Arizona. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in Bermuda and Jamaica, before being captured as a prisoner of war in Hong Kong. He served as POW in Kowloon, China for four years. He was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association and the Belgian Club.
Besides his wife Marguerite, Mr. Van Damme is survived by a son Harry and his wife Irene, their children Sharon, Henry and Carl, all of Oshkosh, Wis., U.S.A.; twin daughters, Mrs. Margaret Burdicki and her husband Allen and Helen Van Damme, all of Chicago, Ill.; a sister Sue Haines of Peru, Ill.; a brother Henry Vanderkerkhove of Camp Verde, Ariz. and his great-granddaughter Shannon.
Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Green Acres Memorial Chapel, Trans Canada Hwy. No: 1 East at Navin Rd. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday morning January 3 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, corner of Cottonwood and Drake Ave. The Rev. Fr. R. Baudry officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Arrangements in care of Green Acres Memorial Chapel, 222-3241.
