Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Daniel Gordon Hollingsworth, so named after his Father, Daniel H. Hollingsworth, was born March 11, 1913 in Winnipeg.
He was called Gordon from the get go. He had an older sister Jean
His Mother Mabel Mary (James) Hollingsworth died at age 35, when Gordon was 4.
His Father remarried in 1926, died 1941.
Gordon's Father, born in Ontario, identified as Irish, his Mother was born in England.
After the war Gordon married Margaret (Peggy) Shannon, a union that remained until death did them part.
They did not have children but adored and stayed close to their five nephews and one niece.
They were both Accountants. Gordon worked for some of the largest companies in North America and included stops in Michigan, Kansa, Oregon, Washington and California, twice.
Margaret would also work in the Accounting field in these States.
They settled in Encino Hills CA for their later working years and retirement.
Gordon was an active Mason, Past Master of Henry Knox lodge #392 Los Angeles. He was also an active Shriner. He and Margaret formed many friendships and enjoyed travels with the group.
They were a successful couple and through their hard work and inherent abilities, lived a very comfortable and enjoyable life.
Sadly, Margaret suffered from Alzheimer’s. Gordon cared for her as long as he could at their home. When she moved to a Nursing Home he visited her every day, although she did not always recognize him.
Gordon was found, peacefully passed away in his living room, on February 14, 1998.
His wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread over the Pacific Ocean.
Margaret passed away August 15, 2000.
They are fondly remembered by their niece and nephews whose lives were enriched by the kindness, generosity and support that Margaret and Gordon provided. Information provided by nephew Warren Shannon December 2022.
