Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

JOHN MILLOY - On April 28, 1973 al Winnipeg General Hospital. John Milloy aged 69 years beloved husband of Marjorie Milloy of 211 4th St. North, Kenora, Ontario. Mr.Milloy was born in Campelilon, Scotland. He was an assistant manager with the Liquor Commission in Ontario retiring in 1967. He was bandmaster and Sergeant of Winnipeg Grenadiers and was in Jamaica and Hong Kong. He was a member of the Lake of The Woods Lodge Chapter and Preceptory and Khartum Temple and past president of the Lake of The Woods Shrine Club. He also was bandmaster of the Wawanesa Band the Lake of the Woods Band. Besides his wife Marjorie he is survived by son John of Kenora, Ontario; a daughter Eve Frost of Winnipeg and a brother Jim Milloy of Glenboro, Manitoba. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m. May 2, 1973 at the Roland United Church, Roland, Manitoba. Rev. Harland and Rev. Reid officiating. Interment in Roland, Manitoba. Bardal Funeral Home in care of arrangements 774-7474.

After serving with the Grenadiers since January 1940, and going to Hong Kong with the unit, J. Milloy was made Band Sergeant just before the battalion left for Hong Kong. He is the son of Mrs. J. Milloy, Wawanesa.
