Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Raymond Fidler, aged 66 years, beloved husband of Marion (nee McMillan) Fidler, passed away peacefully at his home on May 26, 1986.
Ray was born in Winnipeg on January 14, 1920 and spent many years in Stonewall, Man. When war broke out in 1939 he joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers and saw service in Jamaica, before going to Hong Kong. He was a prisoner of war for 44 months. His illness and early passing is attributed to his imprisonment. On his return from overseas he was employed by Hill Security and more recently at Deer Lodge Hospital. He was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Assoc. and of Rockwood Army & Navy No. 303. He was also a past member of the War Amps of Canada.
Besides his loving wife Marion, he leaves to mourn daughter Penny of Winnipeg, son Garry of Winnipeg, and son Ken and wife Jacquie of Toronto, also three grandchildren, David, Leslie and Adam. Ray was predeceased by his mother and father.
At the request of Ray, cremation has taken place. No service will be held. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hong Kong Veterans Assoc., Box 381, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2H6, or to the War Amputation of Canada, 125-1625 Dublin Avenue, Winnipeg.
