Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

William Krohn of Carman Manitoba went to his heavenly home on June 16, 2015 surrounded by his family at the age of 97 years. He was predeceased by two children in infancy, his first wife Florence, his eldest son Donald, his second wife Janet and three brothers and five sisters. He is survived by a combined family of 14 children, 32 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. He was carpenter by trade and many family and friends have enjoyed his handiwork over the years. He spent many hours relaxing in his comfy chair watching a good baseball or hockey game. Dad had a strong faith in God and once he was unable to drive to church he enjoyed watching services on TV. He loved listening to old hymns and was often heard singing at night. Dad was a WWII veteran and surviving Hong Kong POW. We will never forget the sacrifices Dad made for his country and his family. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m at the Friends Community Church with Pastor Dan Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. Memorial donations may be made to the Boyne Valley Hostel Corporation (Building Fund), Box 1644, Carman, MB. R0G 0J0.
