Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Peacefully on Sept. 26, 1997 at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale with his family at his side, Roy Pottinger aged 84 years.
Roy was born on September 15, 1913. Roy loved life and the () with Ann and dear friends. His three step-daughters were close to his heart. He was a perfect dad and husband. The grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always had a special name for each of them and was always concerned about their wellbeing. Friends were always welcome in his house. Their many visits will always be cherished. The family thanks everyone for their kindness and concern during this time.
Roy is survived by his loving wife Ann, of 42 years, three daughters Beryl (Bill) Everingham of Brandon, Donna (Doug) Thomas of Winnipeg, and Phyllis (Len )Klassen of Winnipeg and their children.
At Roy's request, cremation has taken place and there will be a family graveside memorial service. Gathering for friends who wish to pay their respects will be held at the Community Centre in Eriksdale at 3:00 pm on Oct. 2 1997.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale.
