Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

PERRY - Harvey James May 10, 1925 - December 31, 2002 It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Harvey James Perry. He was born in Lanigan, SK and grew up in Moose Jaw, SK. He moved to Vancouver, BC in 1947 and then to Calgary in 1977 where he retired. Harvey's memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Isobel (nee Brinsdon); two daughters, Donna Friesen and Brenda Perry, both of Calgary: grandson Rob (Barb) Martel and great-grandsons, Trevin and Ryan Martel, Aldergrove, BC; two brothers, Gordon (Ida) Perry, Ladysmith, BC and Keith Perry, Burnaby, BC; brother-in-law Fred (Helen) Brinsdon, Sardis, BC; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Harvey was predeceased by his infant son Bobby in 1950, his father Bob Perry in 1957, and his mother May Perry (nee Peebles) in 1991. "Rest with the Lord, until we meet again through Christ." The family wishes to thank Dr. Mayer and the Rockyview Hospital Emergency Room staff and EMS staff for their care and compassion given to Harvey and his family. Special thoughts of appreciation for the kindnesses shown and the friendliness given, to the staff and residents of Ward 3AB in the Colonel Belcher Hospital where Harvey resided for the last eleven months. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.) on Sunday, January 5, 2003 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Private Graveside Service will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 1:00 pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2098 Hall (9305 - 5 Street S.E.). Memorial tributes may be made in Harvey's name directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary (1920 - 11 Street S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2R 187).
