Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

L13164 MILLER-Mr. Leo W. Miller of Riverhurst, Sask. passed away at the Columbia Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas on Thursday, December 19, 1996 at the age of 75 years. He is the beloved husband of the late Opal Miller: loving father of Ken and his wife Ella - Calgary, Alta.; Pat and her husband David Baxter - Barrie, Ont.; special grandfather of Candice and Kevin Miller and Chris and Heather Baxter. He is also survived by his sisters: Noni Trites - Nanaimo, B.C., Marlene Alfred . Maple Ridge, B.C., and Audrey Layton - Jacksonville, Fl. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28. 1996 AT 2:00 P.M. AT THE RIVERHURST COMMUNITY HALL. Brenda Lumsden will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P2, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 2550 Broad St., Regina, Sask., S4P 9Z9 or to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
