Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Howard James Bembridge May 22, 1923 -December 11, 2011 Howard Bembridge passed away in Estevan Saskatchewan on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Howard is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Grant (Gay) Bembridge; their four grandchildren, Troy Hirsch, Chad (Treena) Hirsch, Jasson Bembridge and Jody (Clinton) Gervais; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Verna (George) Thompson; nephew, Buck Thompson; and niece, Candace Thompson. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Bembridge; three brothers, Joseph, Ken and Roland; sister, Florence; and daughter Gail. A memorial service for Howard was held on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, Saskatchewan with Doug Third officiating. Those so wishing may make donations to the Bienfait Legion in Howard's memory. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan Saskatchewan.

A prisoner at Hong Kong is Pte. Howard Bembridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bembridge, of Bienfait, Sask. Pte. Bembridge was born at Bienfait and enlisted in the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Regina and later transferred to the Winnipeg Grenadiers. In October, 1941, he was married to Miss Irene Graham of Bienfait. He left Winnipeg a year ago with the Grenadiers and other than a wire saying he had arrived at Hong Kong this was the first news received by his parents of his whereabouts.
