Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Suddenly on Mon., December 31st, 1962, Sgt. Major Victor J. Myatt, aged 62 years, beloved husband of Mamie Wagg, and dear father of Robert, Edward, Helen (Mrs. L. Hill), Keith and Vernon. Resting at the J. F. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home, 5784 Verdun Ave. Service in the Chapel on Thurs., January 3rd, at 10 a.m. Interment Cote des Neiges Cemetery.
Funeral was held recently for Victor Joseph Myatt, of 771 Beatty Ave., Verdun, a 30-year veteran with the Canadian army, who died at the age of 62.
After joining the army in 1918, Mr. Myatt was posted to several stations across Canada until he was transferred back to Montreal in 1930. He went overseas to Hong Kong in 1941 with two Canadian regiments and was attached to the headquarters staff as quartermaster when that city fell to the Japanese that year. He spent four years in a Japanese concentration camp.
Upon leaving the army in 1948 with the rank of WO11, Mr. Myatt was honored by being made a life-time member of the E Quebec Command of the NCO's Mess.
Though illness had restricted his activity since the war, he worked for nine years for the Texaco Oil Company.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mamie Reid Wagg; four sons, Robert, Edward, Vernon and Keith, all of Montreal; and a daughter, Helen (Mrs. Lloyd Hill), of Oakville, Ont. The Gazette Montreal, Quebec, Canada 07 Jan 1963
