The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Capt. John A. Reid and Capt. Gordon C. Gray Among 35 Named
OTHER ONTARIO MEN
Official silence concerning Canadian prisoners of war at Hong Kong has been pierced for two Toronto women. They have been informed by the national defence department at Ottawa that their husbands are "unofficially reported prisoners of war".
The men are Captain John Anthony Gibson Reid, and Capt. Gordon Cameron Gray.
The two Toronto officers were among 34 officers and one civilian auxiliary service man in the list announced by Ottawa. The information came through London from the British embassy at Chungking. Capt. Reid's wife was the former Jean Hodge. now living on Scholfield Ave. Capt. Gray's wife was the former Marguerite Buck, now residing with her aunt, Mrs. F. J. Sawers, Langley Ave.
Capt. Reid enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in the summer of 1941, and was with the Canadian contingent which arrived in Hong Kong last November. The young Toronto physician graduated from the University of Toronto and interned at Toronto General hospital and in Vancouver.
Son of Dr. Gordon Gray, Sr., of Edmonton, Capt. Gray graduated from the medical school at University of Toronto three years ago. He then interned at Toronto Western hospital and on completing his interneship, went to Ottawa, where he enlisted in the R.C.A.M.C. with the rank of lieutenant. He afterwards. proceeded to Hong Kong and was gazetted a captain while en route.
